Manufacturing Update - December 2018

Manufacturing Update - December 2018

Hi Moasure Backers,

In the 4 weeks since our last update, we’ve made really good progress, but also had a significant set-back.

The good news is:

  • All electronic component lead-time issues are resolved, and components have been received by our contract electronic manufacturer (CEM). The first batch of 100 PCBAs are being built by our CEM this coming week (previous PCBAs were built by a local CEM in the UK). We’re excitedly looking forward to seeing these first PCBAs built by our CEM.

  •  Software development of the app continues to progress well, and we’re still on schedule to have both the Android and iOS apps fully complete and available when the Moasure ONE ships to you.

The not so good news is:

  • Contrary to my previous update, all of the issues related to the housing tooling were not behind us. The tool makers raised a further issue with the housing design almost immediately after my last update. As a result, we needed to make a design change to the housing itself (for the technically minded only: our CEM was being very cautious regarding draft angles, which required us to move the split line of the housing - a non-trivial change). That in turn required us to 3D print and test the new housing design, prior to releasing it to the tool maker. Overall, this added a 3-4 week delay to the tooling schedule, which has impacted our delivery date. If there is a silver lining, it's that we now have an improved design, including better waterproof resistance.

We’ve now received an updated schedule from our CEM, with an updated shipping date of the end of January - more than a month later than our original plan. They are doing everything they can, including using overtime, to try to ensure they can build sufficient Moasure ONE products to satisfy all of our backers prior to their Chinese New Year shutdown.

However, everyone who has been involved in production of a new product knows that unforeseen problems can still arise. If that were to happen, it would be unlikely we would be able to ship to all our backers before Chinese New Year.

All the team here are disappointed that we’ve experienced a delay in getting Moasure ONE to you, and apologise for letting you down. I’d like to reassure you that we are doing everything in our power to get your Moasure ONEs out in January, and have a single-minded focus on achieving it.

In the meantime, thanks again for your support and patience.

Best regards,

Founder & CEO
